ERHA Div 7SE: Oppostion: Harlow 2s; Reilut: Won 4-0;
Scorer(s): L. Farrant(2), M. Tilbury(2) A well organised and disciplined seventy minutes at Coopers School saw Upminster’s 4s finally hit their straps and got their season underway with a 4-0 win over Harlow’s second eleven this Saturday. The performance even warranted an official match report from the captain! Having under performed the previous two weeks against opposition they would have expected to have taken points from, the team took to the field having undertaken a collective soul search and looked a different side altogether. Well organised, calm play allowed the side to put together waves of attack on the Harlow ‘D’ more often than not resulting in penalty corners or, as the half time score line of 3-0 showed, goals. The newly formed strike partnership of Farrant and Tilbury combined excellently supported particularly well by Hudson coming in from the left. When Harlow did mount an attack of their own, it was dealt with coolly by the Upminster back line and midfield and any threat of a reply was relatively short lived. Defender of the match Ben Langston in particular had an excellent defensive game and typified the sides newly found determination. As expected, Harlow began the second half strongly looking to get back into the game but with renewed discipline and an excellent save from young goalkeeper Sam Trusler, Upminster remained strong and their defensive ranks intact. With the side beginning to understandably tire, small mistakes began to creep in but when they found the Harlow net for a fourth time with only ten minutes to go, the points were confirmed. The score line would have shown a fifth goal had a Harlow player not pulled off an excellent goal line save with minutes remaining. An excellent performance from Upminster which if replicated throughout the rest of the season should see them move smartly up the table and challenging for honours come the end of the year. Defender of the Match: Ben Langston |
