Upminster Hockey Club

Upminster Hockey Club is located in the borough of Havering, which sits on the border between Greater London and Essex.

We are easy to reach by public transport. Our home astro at Coopers Coborn School and Clubhouse in the Upminster park are both 5 mins walk from Upminster station. Most travellers identify Upminster as being at 'the end of the district line'. This is true, but it is also served very well by the C2C mainline train service from Fenchurch Street Station in the eastern part of the city of London (stopping at Limehouse, West Ham and Barking). For those more local, the station can be reached using the 248 bus route from the Romford area or the 370 from the Chafford Hundred area.

We currently run 6 mens teams and 4 ladies teams, in all covering the higher and lower levels of the East and Essex league divisions. We are proud of this diversity of playing standard as it enables us to provide challenging and enjoyable hockey for anyone who would like to play.

At the close of season 2008-2009, our mens 1s, 2s, 4s and 5s all achieved promotion from their respective divisions.

We also run mini hockey for those just starting out and it is possible to play in competition from U9 right through to U13, when players are eligible for senior league hockey.

There is also mixed sex, summer league and indoor hockey for senior players, and we encourage all those who wish to travel to join us on our annual hockey tours - with the Isle of Man and Spain being destinations visited during 2009.

Whilst on the social front, our Easter 7s and Boxing Day tournaments held outside our clubhouse ensure that the sadly fading skills necessary for playing grass hockey are being preserved in Upminster.

We have qualified coaches at our disposal for all levels of training (secondary school year 3 through to 1st XI's), and an active program to develop more coaches.

 Some recent notable performances in 2009 include:
- 1st XI men promoted to Div 1S of the ERHA League;
- Our 2nd, 4th and 5th XI men also achieved promotion from their respective divisions;
- Our U9/ U11/U13 squad won the Alliance Minis End of  Season Vase; and we had 4 players in the Essex squad that won the Mens U21 County Championships.
Although this wasn't the best year for our ladies, in terms of league positions, make no mistake, they are every bit as capable as the men for achieving success and every bit a key to the overall success of our club on the social side.

If you would like to join us at Upminster, we promise you a friendly welcome and the opportunity to play hockey at a range of levels covering the entire spectrum of "full-on competitive" to "full-on sociable" - for both genders and all age groups.
